There's a thank you in here for you, too. Somewhere.
Thanks to the earth
spinning on its axis
we still don't know why
but it keeps on spinning
through ice age and warming
much to Al's chagrin
its going to keep on spinning
only god can stop it
and he seems to be busy elsewhere at the moment
if you watch the news
or listen to the radio
but Rush and Hannity say he's on our side
so there's that
guess that's why we all sleep tight
while the burning happens
right under our noses
Thanks to the sun
for continuing to shine
even though modern science
taught us you're not the center of the universe
Suprised you didn't pack up
and move on to another solar system
after that little nugget
came down from on high
but we still try to teach a little voodoo
just ask the rednecks
about intelligent design
that'll get a good one going
walk into a bar in Mobile
and strike up a conversation
about DEVILution
and that old sodomite Darwin
Thanks to the sky
guess you're just big and empty
like our heads
we got big glasses to see you better
think we thought the reasons were out there
somewhere in the deep blue
it's really black, you know
that's another trick our eyes play
we'll keep looking for the answers
while the questions elude us
we'll look to you, god

we'll look to science
quantum and math and what-not
look deep inside for the dark matter, folks
cause it's in our hearts
One day we might wise up
stop all our questions and dance
hear the music that the trees play
find ourselves in each other
but I'm not optimistic and neither is god
he's off somewhere, in a corner booth
glass filled to the brim
chuckling to himself about some melancholy truth
